Now lately
Speaker 2I've had a few people reach
Speaker 1Out to me and ask me, what
Speaker 2Is health coaching? Because I have talked
Speaker 1A little bit on the show
Speaker 2Over previous episodes
Speaker 1About my health coaching. And I guess I haven't really explained it or talked about it too much in
Speaker 2Depth . So I thought I would
Speaker 1Take the opportunity to talk
Speaker 2About it
Speaker 1On this
Speaker 2Episode so
Speaker 1That you can learn a little bit more about what
Speaker 2A health coach does in particular, what
Speaker 1I do and how it's different from say something like a life
Speaker 2Coach or a
Speaker 1Personal trainer, or even a nutritionist or a dietician .
Speaker 2So I
Speaker 1Started my health coaching business back in 2013 . It was, And
Speaker 2I
Speaker 1Absolutely
Speaker 2Love health coaching. It's
Speaker 1Probably the most rewarding career move I
Speaker 2Have ever taken.
Speaker 1Um, I actually stumbled across it one day on the internet. And as soon as I read the description about what a health
Speaker 2Coach was,
Speaker 1I fell in love with the idea and I could totally
Speaker 2Visualize
Speaker 1Myself doing that and helping others. And
Speaker 2I, I basically
Speaker 1Made it my mission to be
Speaker 2Able to
Speaker 1Grow a business and to walk away from my part-time job in an office space that
Speaker 2I
Speaker 1Absolutely despised.
Speaker 2So, yeah, so I , I started
Speaker 1To become a health And
Speaker 2Yeah, to , to
Speaker 1Say that it was life changing is, is basically an understatement because The amount of flow on effect from me taking that career move has just been astronomical. The amount of people that I've personally been able to help has been so
Speaker 2Rewarding.
Speaker 1Now, when I first started my career in, in health coaching, I was doing one on one coaching with clients and also
Speaker 2Small group group coaching.
Speaker 1And then I started to move into the online space and doing group coaching in , um , the online space via
Speaker 2Zoom . So, yeah, so that's basically how it
Speaker 1All started for me. So
Speaker 2What is a health coach? So a health coach is
Speaker 1Different from other type of coaching in that what
Speaker 2I do as a health coach
Speaker 1Is I encompass what's
Speaker 2Called
Speaker 1Primary food and secondary food. Now that might sound a little bit
Speaker 2Crazy
Speaker 1To you and what am I talking about?
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1I'll explain it to you
Speaker 2Quickly. So primary food is basically
Speaker 1Things that are going on in your life That don't revolve around food.
Speaker 2So these areas are your career,
Speaker 1Your , uh , physical
Speaker 2Activity
Speaker 1Or your movement, your relationships and your spirituality.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1If something in those
Speaker 2Areas is
Speaker 1Out of alignment, it can
Speaker 2Affect your life.
Speaker 1So not only do I help
Speaker 2With people with
Speaker 1Their food and their eating and making sure they're on top of everything to do with gluten free and celiac
Speaker 2Disease, I help
Speaker 1People in these
Speaker 2Key areas as well.
Speaker 1Now, when we talk about spirituality, I'm not just
Speaker 2Talking about
Speaker 1God, you might not be spiritual in that way, but you might have , um, more of a new age awareness, or you might be into Something completely different. That's not anything to do
Speaker 2With religion, but it's your spirituality. So it's where
Speaker 1You fit in the, where
Speaker 2You see yourself, things
Speaker 1Like that. And then obviously when it comes to career, many people have changed their careers in the past couple
Speaker 2Of years because they've realized what's
Speaker 1Really important to them. And unfortunately it does take something like COVID
Speaker 2And
Speaker 1Lockdowns and things like that for
Speaker 2A lot of us to realize
Speaker 1That there's more to life than
Speaker 2Just
Speaker 1Doing the same old thing and the same old grind.
Speaker 2So yeah, career's a big one physical activity. Obviously people
Speaker 1That don't
Speaker 2Look after their bodies ,
Speaker 1Um, by not exercising, That's one area that they fall down with. And then obviously
Speaker 2Relationships is huge because
Speaker 1You can have issues in your relationships and, and that
Speaker 2Causes issues
Speaker 1As well. And we , when we talk about relationships, I'm not just talking about , um , say
Speaker 2A couple, it can be
Speaker 1Your parents. It can
Speaker 2Be your work colleagues.
Speaker 1It can be your next door neighbor.
Speaker 2If,
Speaker 1If something's out of whack in your relationships, that
Speaker 2Can also cause issues.
Speaker 1So then we talk about secondary food . So
Speaker 2Secondary food is actually food
Speaker 1And water, things
Speaker 2Like that. So
Speaker 1Yeah , anything you consume and anything that you drink goes into
Speaker 2Your secondary food. So what I do is
Speaker 1I help clients work on creating a
Speaker 2Basically as, as perfect of a lifestyle as possible
Speaker 1Around primary food and secondary food. And what
Speaker 2A coach does, which is
Speaker 1Really different to
Speaker 2Other people is a health coach helps
Speaker 1Clients
Speaker 2To achieve
Speaker 1Their own goals.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1When my clients came to me in a one-on-one basis, We would sit down at the first session and we would write
Speaker 2Out goals, but
Speaker 1I would not set those goals for my clients. They
Speaker 2Would have to set those goals for themselves because
Speaker 1There's no point in getting someone else to
Speaker 2Tell you what you should be achieving. You need to work that out for yourself. So a health health coach actually helps you
Speaker 1See that and, and work that
Speaker 2Out for yourself. So, yeah, it's pretty cool actually, the way that
Speaker 1I can,
Speaker 2I guess, pull it out of people,
Speaker 1What they wanna achieve and what changes they need to make. So
Speaker 2I've
Speaker 1Worked with many, many different clients from all different walks of
Speaker 2Life,
Speaker 1Different backgrounds, different health
Speaker 2Issues, from things like ulcerative colitis to their
Speaker 1Hair, falling out in clumps
Speaker 2To
Speaker 1Being
Speaker 2Overweight
Speaker 1And not knowing what the problem was. Cuz they
Speaker 2Tried
Speaker 1Every diet under the sun, it turned out they were in a really crappy relationship and that was holding them
Speaker 2Back. So there's
Speaker 1Lots of different things that
Speaker 2I help people with.
Speaker 1Um, but it's only really been in the last
Speaker 2Sort of five
Speaker 1To seven years that
Speaker 2I've really focused
Speaker 1On celiac disease and helping people with
Speaker 2Celiac disease specifically Because
Speaker 1It's something that I, I love the most. I love helping people the most with this
Speaker 2Because I
Speaker 1Have so much more of an expertise in our , and I love
Speaker 2To be able to help people thrive with their celiac disease because I truly believe
Speaker 1That when we get on top of it, we can feel so much better. We can feel so much more confident in ourselves. We can feel so much more happier and we can just live such a
Speaker 2Better
Speaker 1Life when we are on top of
Speaker 2Every ,
Speaker 1Everything that encompasses
Speaker 2Life basically. So yeah, it's
Speaker 1All very well and good making sure that all of those things are lined up with gluten free and cross-contamination and all those
Speaker 2Things. But
Speaker 1The thing is, if something's out of whack
Speaker 2Elsewhere
Speaker 1Within your life, then that can
Speaker 2Cause health
Speaker 1Issues that you may not even be realizing, whether it be anxiety or
Speaker 2Dress or
Speaker 1You know, bloating. And you're not even realizing that it's actually
Speaker 2From
Speaker 1Stress belly and it's not from gluten.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1I help my clients get to
Speaker 2The root cause of all of
Speaker 1These types of things and to improve and, and make these things better.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1It's, it's an incredible
Speaker 2Career.
Speaker 1It's an incredible
Speaker 2Job.
Speaker 1If you wanna call it a job. And
Speaker 2It
Speaker 1It's just one of those things that
Speaker 2When I first started, people
Speaker 1Didn't know what
Speaker 2A health coach was. They would say, oh, so are you like a
Speaker 1Personal trainer? Oh, is that what you do? No, I'm , I'm not a , I'm not a personal trainer. I have nothing to do
Speaker 2With
Speaker 1Teaching people about
Speaker 2Physical activity.
Speaker 1I
Speaker 2Help people , people discover the exercise or
Speaker 1The movement that they enjoy the most
Speaker 2So that they will
Speaker 1Actually go out and do it.
Speaker 2Because
Speaker 1For me, I personally, don't like having someone yelling and screaming at me to do things. I don't work that way.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1Personal trainers are not my gen . If you're a personal trainer, you've
Speaker 2Obviously got people that
Speaker 1Adore you and love you. And that's fantastic, but personal trainers are not for everybody. And I know they don't all yell and scream. Don't get me wrong. But in my experience, the personal trainers that I've worked with in the past
Speaker 2Just
Speaker 1Didn't work for me at all.
Speaker 2So
Speaker 1That is not what a health coach
Speaker 2Does. A health coach helps
Speaker 1You understand which
Speaker 2Types of exercise works
Speaker 1For your unique body,
Speaker 2Lifestyle,
Speaker 1Personality, things like that.
Speaker 2So that's very cool as
Speaker 1Well that you can find that out by working with a health coach. I have gone on since to do further
Speaker 2Study.
Speaker 1I've done study very recently about fo maps. Um, I've done further study to become hypnotherapist and I'm also currently studying further
Speaker 2About the law
Speaker 1Of attraction . So yeah, I'm always learning. I'm almost always growing and I'm always focusing on how I can become a better person so that I can become a better coach because in life I think we never stop learning. We're always learning. We can always be better and, and achieve more. And I feel that by helping others, it helped me so much as well. So if you've never heard of health coaching, I hope this gives you a good explanation of what a health coach does depending on where you live. You may be able to find a health coach that you can work with in a one-on-one basis. Or you may like to seek someone out that you can work with online. I am going to be very, very soon launching again, group program. So if that's something that you are interested in, you are more than welcome to send me an email or send me a D DM on Instagram. And just let me know that you wanna be on the wait list to find out more about that. Um, but yeah, I'm very excited to be doing group coaching again, because I did step away for a little bit from the coaching, just spend my family. So yeah, I'm , I'm excited to get back into that space again. And yeah. So I just wanted to share with you very quickly this week about health coaching in case it's something you'd never really understood when I've dropped it a mention of it in my episode. So yeah, if you've got any more questions, let me know. I'm more than happy to answer them. So feel free to hit me up on , um, either Instagram via healthy celiac, or you can send me an email info, Belinda wheel.com and I will respond to you there. So thank you so much for listening and I will be back to talk with you again next week. Have a fantastic week. I'll talk with you then. Bye.
