So on last week's episode of the healthy CEL podcast,
Speaker 2I was talking about 15 gluten free foods
Speaker 1That could still be causing
Speaker 2Issues
Speaker 1With your digestion.
Speaker 2And my husband and I were enjoying a smoothie
Speaker 1Bowl
Speaker 2Today. And I was just chatting with him about the differences between, um, eating a
Speaker 1Smoothie bowl versus
Speaker 2Drinking a smoothie and how much more beneficial
Speaker 1It is to your digestive
Speaker 2System. And lo and behold, He turned around and said, wow,
Speaker 1That's perfect for sharing with your
Speaker 2Audience. And you should teach
Speaker 1People
Speaker 2That on your podcast.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2Here we are. I thought I'd
Speaker 1Share with
Speaker 2You the benefits of
Speaker 1Why
Speaker 2A smooth smoothie bowl
Speaker 1Is
Speaker 2Really great for
Speaker 1You with celiac
Speaker 2Disease and why it's
Speaker 1Actually better
Speaker 2Than having a smoothie.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2Let's jump into those reasons and help inspire you
Speaker 1To
Speaker 2Start consuming a smoothie bowl.
Speaker 1So, firstly,
Speaker 2What is the difference between a smoothie bowl and a smoothie? So a
Speaker 1Smoothie smoothie, we obviously
Speaker 2Know what
Speaker 1A smoothie
Speaker 2Is.
Speaker 1Don't we, we,
Speaker 2We can picture it in a cup or a glass with a straw and we drink it and it's gone. Whereas a smoothie bowl, as it sounds, you eat it out of a bowl and you don't drink it with
Speaker 1A straw, you actually eat it
Speaker 2With a spoon. And when I say
Speaker 1Eat it, you are
Speaker 2Actually chewing your smoothie bowl. Okay.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2What is different is
Speaker 1It's a little bit
Speaker 2Thicker than a regular smoothie.
Speaker 1So it,
Speaker 2It's got more of
Speaker 1A,
Speaker 2A thicker consistency based on the way that you
Speaker 1Make it. So you don't add
Speaker 2Water
Speaker 1To your smoothie
Speaker 2Bowl and there's not as much liquid
Speaker 1Added to
Speaker 2It. So when I make
Speaker 1Smoothies, I usually
Speaker 2Add something like water Or some coconut milk
Speaker 1Or some coconut water,
Speaker 2Something to make it a thinner and easier to drink through a straw.
Speaker 1Whereas we don't do
Speaker 2That as much with a smoothie bowl. Now you can put lots of different and things in your smoothie bowl. And then what's normally done is you sprinkle different things on top
Speaker 1Of your smoothie bowl
Speaker 2And it can be
Speaker 1Fruit. It
Speaker 2Can be nuts and
Speaker 1Seeds. It can be, you know,
Speaker 2Shreded coconut, things like that, and maybe a drizzle of maple syrup. And it just adds another element to it where
Speaker 1You actually have to chew it. So let's talk about why
Speaker 2That's beneficial.
Speaker 1Now, when we talk about
Speaker 2Digestion, digestion actually starts
Speaker 1Before your food hits your stomach. So
Speaker 2When you
Speaker 1Chew food, you are
Speaker 2Actually creating more
Speaker 1Digestive juices.
Speaker 2Okay? So
Speaker 1If you just
Speaker 2Swallow some thing without chewing it,
Speaker 1Your digestive juices,
Speaker 2Haven't had much of a chance to Swirl around in your mouth and swirl around that food and
Speaker 1Get
Speaker 2That
Speaker 1Digestive process
Speaker 2Happening. So when you are chewing
Speaker 1A smoothie bowl,
Speaker 2So let's just say you take a mouthful of your smoothie bowl and you chew it around in your mouth before you swallow it. That's actually creating more digestion before it hits your stomach. It's pretty amazing, really? So when you are cooking, your body is starting digest that food before you have even eaten, because we start to smell the food. We start to see the food and our body gets ready to digest that food. It's very powerful and it's very different to, if you were to go and order some take away food. So let's just say you phoned up, you order to take away food. You go and pick it up and you eat it straight away. You will not digest that food as well as if you had prepared your own food because your body hasn't had that initial sense of smelling and seeing the food and being prepared for it. It's, it's quite incredible when you feel about it. So again, preparing a smoothie bowl, seeing it smelling all the beautiful fruits, all the things that go into it, moving it around your mouth, chewing it up, digesting, digesting, digesting. So it's incredible to think that just by changing the way that you eat can change the, that your body digest food. Now, what I absolutely love about having a smoothie bowl is you are eating something that is completely nutrient dense. It is full of nutrition. It is full of goodness. It's going to make you feel amazing. You're gonna feel great to start your day. When I say that you don't even have to have them for breakfast. They're fantastic for an afternoon snack or lunch. You don't just have to have'em for breakfast, but they are an incredible start to your day because they're feeling they're delicious, they're nourishing, and it just makes you feel good to start the day with something healthy. I don't know about you, but when I start the day on a healthy foot, I tend to follow it through for the rest of the day. So it can help create better habits as well when we eat well, first thing in the morning, I think that's very powerful as well. So yeah, so it's something that's, I, I highly recommend that you give it a go and it's a way of getting those nutrients into your body while you're healing. So if you are very new to having celiac disease and you are worrying about what to eat and you're struggling to find different breakfast ideas, because it's probably one of the questions that I hear a lot is I just don't know what to have for breakfast. I just don't know what to eat. And people reach for things like gluten free breads, which are usually full of fat. They're very high fat, the gluten free bread. And a lot of them have a lot of sugar in them. And there's not that much nutrients that we get from eating bread. Anyway, um, obviously we get fiber and lots of goodness from that side of things, but as far as being nutrient dense, there's, there's not as much of that nutrient dense profile coming from gluten-free bread.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2Replacing gluten-free bread for breakfast, making sure you just reaching for, you know, packaged gluten free cereals, a smoothie bowl can do so much more for your body than any of those packaged items ever can do.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2I, I love eating as much
Speaker 1Real whole foods as possible.
Speaker 2I know it's not always Easy for a lot of people, But even if you just added this in a couple of times a week and see how
Speaker 1You feel, you know, if
Speaker 2You work during the week
Speaker 1To say,
Speaker 2You've got a job Monday to Friday, it doesn't even take that long to make in the morning. I kid you not. It might sound like, oh wow,
Speaker 1This is a lot of work, but
Speaker 2They Actually don't even take that long to make.
Speaker 1So give it a go. See how you feel.
Speaker 2See what the difference is when you eat this way. Feel. If it nourishes you
Speaker 1Feel, if it fills you up,
Speaker 2If you feel more energized and go from there because Like anything, if you don't try it, you don't know. You've gotta give things a go
Speaker 1To see how
Speaker 2You feel and how your body reacts. Okay?
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2If there's something that resonate with you, I'm gonna give you guys the opportunity to download
Speaker 1A free ebook that I've put available
Speaker 2For you on my website. And that way you can get some recipes off me and play around with them and, and see what
Speaker 1Works
Speaker 2For you. There's no hard and fast rules. When it comes to smoothie bowls, you can change up the ingredients. You can have different fruits in them, but it's one of those things that once you've got a
Speaker 1Base
Speaker 2Idea of how to make them, you can play around with them and you can make them your own.
Speaker 1So go
Speaker 2To my website, Belinda wheelin.com and download that freebie, because I want you to try these. I want you to, um, take photos of'em and put'em on Instagram tag in your photos, send me your photos. I wanna see what you're making. I wanna see what you're creating and let me know how you
Speaker 1Feel. Because
Speaker 2Like I
Speaker 1Said, so powerful,
Speaker 2So nutritious,
Speaker 1So good for you.
Speaker 2And I honestly think you really like them. So
Speaker 1Yeah,
Speaker 2I want you, I want you to give it a go and let me know. So I hope that that really helped you and inspires you, you to try something different. And I hope it helps you think a little bit more about food. Next time you go to eat and think about digestion and think about how it starts
Speaker 1Before
Speaker 2You've even taken the first
Speaker 1Bite.
Speaker 2So thank you so much for listening. Thanks for tuning in. I really appreciate you being here and letting me share
Speaker 1With
Speaker 2You and teach you about your amazing body. So thank you again, and I really look forward to talking with you on the next episode.
Speaker 1So
Speaker 2Have a fantastic week and I will talk with you soon. Take care. Bye.
