Speaker 1:

Now lately

Speaker 2:

I've had a few people reach

Speaker 1:

Out to me and ask me, what

Speaker 2:

Is health coaching? Because I have talked

Speaker 1:

A little bit on the show

Speaker 2:

Over previous episodes

Speaker 1:

About my health coaching. And I guess I haven't really explained it or talked about it too much in

Speaker 2:

Depth. So I thought I would

Speaker 1:

Take the opportunity to talk

Speaker 2:

About it

Speaker 1:

On this

Speaker 2:

Episode so

Speaker 1:

That you can learn a little bit more about what

Speaker 2:

A health coach does in particular, what

Speaker 1:

I do and how it's different from say something like a life

Speaker 2:

Coach or a

Speaker 1:

Personal trainer, or even a nutritionist or a dietician.

Speaker 2:

So I

Speaker 1:

Started my health coaching business back in 2013. It was, And

Speaker 2:

I

Speaker 1:

Absolutely

Speaker 2:

Love health coaching. It's

Speaker 1:

Probably the most rewarding career move I

Speaker 2:

Have ever taken.

Speaker 1:

Um, I actually stumbled across it one day on the internet. And as soon as I read the description about what a health

Speaker 2:

Coach was,

Speaker 1:

I fell in love with the idea and I could totally

Speaker 2:

Visualize

Speaker 1:

Myself doing that and helping others. And

Speaker 2:

I, I basically

Speaker 1:

Made it my mission to be

Speaker 2:

Able to

Speaker 1:

Grow a business and to walk away from my part-time job in an office space that

Speaker 2:

I

Speaker 1:

Absolutely despised.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, so I, I started

Speaker 1:

To become a health And

Speaker 2:

Yeah, to, to

Speaker 1:

Say that it was life changing is, is basically an understatement because The amount of flow on effect from me taking that career move has just been astronomical. The amount of people that I've personally been able to help has been so

Speaker 2:

Rewarding.

Speaker 1:

Now, when I first started my career in, in health coaching, I was doing one on one coaching with clients and also

Speaker 2:

Small group group coaching.

Speaker 1:

And then I started to move into the online space and doing group coaching in, um, the online space via

Speaker 2:

Zoom. So, yeah, so that's basically how it

Speaker 1:

All started for me. So

Speaker 2:

What is a health coach? So a health coach is

Speaker 1:

Different from other type of coaching in that what

Speaker 2:

I do as a health coach

Speaker 1:

Is I encompass what's

Speaker 2:

Called

Speaker 1:

Primary food and secondary food. Now that might sound a little bit

Speaker 2:

Crazy

Speaker 1:

To you and what am I talking about?

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

I'll explain it to you

Speaker 2:

Quickly. So primary food is basically

Speaker 1:

Things that are going on in your life That don't revolve around food.

Speaker 2:

So these areas are your career,

Speaker 1:

Your, uh, physical

Speaker 2:

Activity

Speaker 1:

Or your movement, your relationships and your spirituality.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

If something in those

Speaker 2:

Areas is

Speaker 1:

Out of alignment, it can

Speaker 2:

Affect your life.

Speaker 1:

So not only do I help

Speaker 2:

With people with

Speaker 1:

Their food and their eating and making sure they're on top of everything to do with gluten free and celiac

Speaker 2:

Disease, I help

Speaker 1:

People in these

Speaker 2:

Key areas as well.

Speaker 1:

Now, when we talk about spirituality, I'm not just

Speaker 2:

Talking about

Speaker 1:

God, you might not be spiritual in that way, but you might have, um, more of a new age awareness, or you might be into Something completely different. That's not anything to do

Speaker 2:

With religion, but it's your spirituality. So it's where

Speaker 1:

You fit in the, where

Speaker 2:

You see yourself, things

Speaker 1:

Like that. And then obviously when it comes to career, many people have changed their careers in the past couple

Speaker 2:

Of years because they've realized what's

Speaker 1:

Really important to them. And unfortunately it does take something like COVID

Speaker 2:

And

Speaker 1:

Lockdowns and things like that for

Speaker 2:

A lot of us to realize

Speaker 1:

That there's more to life than

Speaker 2:

Just

Speaker 1:

Doing the same old thing and the same old grind.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, career's a big one physical activity. Obviously people

Speaker 1:

That don't

Speaker 2:

Look after their bodies,

Speaker 1:

Um, by not exercising, That's one area that they fall down with. And then obviously

Speaker 2:

Relationships is huge because

Speaker 1:

You can have issues in your relationships and, and that

Speaker 2:

Causes issues

Speaker 1:

As well. And we, when we talk about relationships, I'm not just talking about, um, say

Speaker 2:

A couple, it can be

Speaker 1:

Your parents. It can

Speaker 2:

Be your work colleagues.

Speaker 1:

It can be your next door neighbor.

Speaker 2:

If,

Speaker 1:

If something's out of whack in your relationships, that

Speaker 2:

Can also cause issues.

Speaker 1:

So then we talk about secondary food. So

Speaker 2:

Secondary food is actually food

Speaker 1:

And water, things

Speaker 2:

Like that. So

Speaker 1:

Yeah, anything you consume and anything that you drink goes into

Speaker 2:

Your secondary food. So what I do is

Speaker 1:

I help clients work on creating a

Speaker 2:

Basically as, as perfect of a lifestyle as possible

Speaker 1:

Around primary food and secondary food. And what

Speaker 2:

A coach does, which is

Speaker 1:

Really different to

Speaker 2:

Other people is a health coach helps

Speaker 1:

Clients

Speaker 2:

To achieve

Speaker 1:

Their own goals.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

When my clients came to me in a one-on-one basis, We would sit down at the first session and we would write

Speaker 2:

Out goals, but

Speaker 1:

I would not set those goals for my clients. They

Speaker 2:

Would have to set those goals for themselves because

Speaker 1:

There's no point in getting someone else to

Speaker 2:

Tell you what you should be achieving. You need to work that out for yourself. So a health health coach actually helps you

Speaker 1:

See that and, and work that

Speaker 2:

Out for yourself. So, yeah, it's pretty cool actually, the way that

Speaker 1:

I can,

Speaker 2:

I guess, pull it out of people,

Speaker 1:

What they wanna achieve and what changes they need to make. So

Speaker 2:

I've

Speaker 1:

Worked with many, many different clients from all different walks of

Speaker 2:

Life,

Speaker 1:

Different backgrounds, different health

Speaker 2:

Issues, from things like ulcerative colitis to their

Speaker 1:

Hair, falling out in clumps

Speaker 2:

To

Speaker 1:

Being

Speaker 2:

Overweight

Speaker 1:

And not knowing what the problem was. Cuz they

Speaker 2:

Tried

Speaker 1:

Every diet under the sun, it turned out they were in a really crappy relationship and that was holding them

Speaker 2:

Back. So there's

Speaker 1:

Lots of different things that

Speaker 2:

I help people with.

Speaker 1:

Um, but it's only really been in the last

Speaker 2:

Sort of five

Speaker 1:

To seven years that

Speaker 2:

I've really focused

Speaker 1:

On celiac disease and helping people with

Speaker 2:

Celiac disease specifically Because

Speaker 1:

It's something that I, I love the most. I love helping people the most with this

Speaker 2:

Because I

Speaker 1:

Have so much more of an expertise in our, and I love

Speaker 2:

To be able to help people thrive with their celiac disease because I truly believe

Speaker 1:

That when we get on top of it, we can feel so much better. We can feel so much more confident in ourselves. We can feel so much more happier and we can just live such a

Speaker 2:

Better

Speaker 1:

Life when we are on top of

Speaker 2:

Every,

Speaker 1:

Everything that encompasses

Speaker 2:

Life basically. So yeah, it's

Speaker 1:

All very well and good making sure that all of those things are lined up with gluten free and cross-contamination and all those

Speaker 2:

Things. But

Speaker 1:

The thing is, if something's out of whack

Speaker 2:

Elsewhere

Speaker 1:

Within your life, then that can

Speaker 2:

Cause health

Speaker 1:

Issues that you may not even be realizing, whether it be anxiety or

Speaker 2:

Dress or

Speaker 1:

You know, bloating. And you're not even realizing that it's actually

Speaker 2:

From

Speaker 1:

Stress belly and it's not from gluten.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

I help my clients get to

Speaker 2:

The root cause of all of

Speaker 1:

These types of things and to improve and, and make these things better.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

It's, it's an incredible

Speaker 2:

Career.

Speaker 1:

It's an incredible

Speaker 2:

Job.

Speaker 1:

If you wanna call it a job. And

Speaker 2:

It

Speaker 1:

It's just one of those things that

Speaker 2:

When I first started, people

Speaker 1:

Didn't know what

Speaker 2:

A health coach was. They would say, oh, so are you like a

Speaker 1:

Personal trainer? Oh, is that what you do? No, I'm, I'm not a, I'm not a personal trainer. I have nothing to do

Speaker 2:

With

Speaker 1:

Teaching people about

Speaker 2:

Physical activity.

Speaker 1:

I

Speaker 2:

Help people, people discover the exercise or

Speaker 1:

The movement that they enjoy the most

Speaker 2:

So that they will

Speaker 1:

Actually go out and do it.

Speaker 2:

Because

Speaker 1:

For me, I personally, don't like having someone yelling and screaming at me to do things. I don't work that way.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

Personal trainers are not my gen. If you're a personal trainer, you've

Speaker 2:

Obviously got people that

Speaker 1:

Adore you and love you. And that's fantastic, but personal trainers are not for everybody. And I know they don't all yell and scream. Don't get me wrong. But in my experience, the personal trainers that I've worked with in the past

Speaker 2:

Just

Speaker 1:

Didn't work for me at all.

Speaker 2:

So

Speaker 1:

That is not what a health coach

Speaker 2:

Does. A health coach helps

Speaker 1:

You understand which

Speaker 2:

Types of exercise works

Speaker 1:

For your unique body,

Speaker 2:

Lifestyle,

Speaker 1:

Personality, things like that.

Speaker 2:

So that's very cool as

Speaker 1:

Well that you can find that out by working with a health coach. I have gone on since to do further

Speaker 2:

Study.

Speaker 1:

I've done study very recently about fo maps. Um, I've done further study to become hypnotherapist and I'm also currently studying further

Speaker 2:

About the law

Speaker 1:

Of attraction. So yeah, I'm always learning. I'm almost always growing and I'm always focusing on how I can become a better person so that I can become a better coach because in life I think we never stop learning. We're always learning. We can always be better and, and achieve more. And I feel that by helping others, it helped me so much as well. So if you've never heard of health coaching, I hope this gives you a good explanation of what a health coach does depending on where you live. You may be able to find a health coach that you can work with in a one-on-one basis. Or you may like to seek someone out that you can work with online. I am going to be very, very soon launching again, group program. So if that's something that you are interested in, you are more than welcome to send me an email or send me a D DM on Instagram. And just let me know that you wanna be on the wait list to find out more about that. Um, but yeah, I'm very excited to be doing group coaching again, because I did step away for a little bit from the coaching, just spend my family. So yeah, I'm, I'm excited to get back into that space again. And yeah. So I just wanted to share with you very quickly this week about health coaching in case it's something you'd never really understood when I've dropped it a mention of it in my episode. So yeah, if you've got any more questions, let me know. I'm more than happy to answer them. So feel free to hit me up on, um, either Instagram via healthy celiac, or you can send me an email info, Belinda wheel.com and I will respond to you there. So thank you so much for listening and I will be back to talk with you again next week. Have a fantastic week. I'll talk with you then. Bye.
